Eyelash Extension Guide

Discover Everything About the Eyelash Extension Technique

What Are Eyelash Extensions?

The application of eyelash extensions is a highly sought-after beauty treatment by women of all ages, used to lengthen and thicken natural lashes. This professional service involves applying special extensions to the natural lashes—ultra-thin, lightweight synthetic fiber lashes available in various lengths, thicknesses, and curls.

Extensions can be applied using either the One to One Extension technique for a more natural eyelash lengthening or the Volume Extension technique for those who desire more thickness and volume.

The One to One Extension technique is the most classic: a single extension is applied to each natural lash using a tested, hypoallergenic adhesive, with varying lengths, thicknesses, and curls.

The Volume Effect technique requires more experience and involves applying a fan made of multiple lashes to each natural lash. The fans can vary in size, with Volume 2D, Volume 3D, Volume 5D, and Extra Volume (Russian Volume) indicating the number of lashes per fan.

How Long Do Eyelash Extensions Last?

Eyelash extensions last about 3-4 weeks, after which a touch-up can be done to thicken the lashes. Natural lashes have a growth and shedding cycle that should be followed with the touch-up technique. To ensure a long-lasting treatment, it is essential to use only professional quick-drying, high-adhesion, and water-resistant eyelash extension adhesives. Various types are available depending on experience and method used: My Lashes adhesives are ideal for ensuring excellent durability.

Lashes are a valuable element, and to ensure that extensions last a long time and maintain a perfectly groomed appearance, it is necessary to follow some simple precautions after application. For the first 24 hours, it is essential not to wet the lashes, avoid hot showers, steam sources, and saunas, and not apply mascara. Subsequently, to better maintain the eyelash extensions, it is advisable to avoid oil-based cosmetics or cleansers that can dissolve the adhesive used for the extensions, and wash them gently using the specific Mousse Shampoo. If desired, water-based mascara can be used, applied only to the ends of the extensions, not the roots of the lashes.

What Types of Lashes Are Used for Eyelash Extensions?

Eyelash extensions are made of synthetic fiber and can be of various types. They can be silk-effect fiber, in a bright black color and shinier, mink-effect fiber (faux mink), in a less black and more matte color. Alternatively, they can be of the new generation, like My Lashes extensions, made of a premium lightweight synthetic fiber with a completely natural look and intense black color. The best eyelash extensions are soft, flexible, and maintain their original shape over time. They are light and comfortable, even when used for ultra-volume effects, providing a very natural sensation.

The Different Curls of Eyelash Extensions

Eyelash extensions can have different curls: the most commonly used are B, C, and D curls, which adapt to all eye types (there are also other special curls like J, U, CC, L, and others).

  • B-Curl: For natural lashes with a slight curl. They have a medium curl and are used to elegantly redefine the shape of the eye and give straight lashes a slight curl.

  • C-Curl: For natural lashes with a normal curl. They have an accentuated curl and bend upwards for a doll-like appearance. This shape is the most popular and used as it creates a highly desired look among clients. C-Curl combines very well with B-Curl.

  • D-Curl: For natural lashes with a more prominent curl. D-Curls have a more pronounced curl and are used when you want to intensify the look to the maximum.

Thickness and Length of Eyelash Extensions

Eyelash extensions come in various thicknesses and lengths, ranging from 0.04 mm to 0.30 mm, though the most commonly used thicknesses are between 0.05 mm and 0.20 mm.

Extensions with thicknesses of 0.05 mm and 0.07 mm are used to create Volume effects. Due to their extreme lightness, they are applied in fans or clusters to individual lashes. They are used to create 3D, 5D, Russian, or Extra Volume effects, by making handmade fans or treating the lower lash extensions.

Extensions with a thickness of 0.10 mm have an intermediate diameter and can be used for both the One to One method and the Volume Method.

Extensions with a thickness of 0.15 mm have an ideal diameter for the One to One method and allow for a very natural effect. They greatly enhance the look and intensify the depth of the eyes.

Extensions with a thickness of 0.20 mm adapt well to most natural lashes to create a mascara effect. This chosen thickness, combined with the right lengths and curls, provides a significant and well-visible effect that enhances the depth of the eyes.

Regarding lengths, the most commonly used are between 8 mm and 13 mm and are usually available in mixed boxes or single-size boxes.

Volume Lashes in Clusters or Fans

The Volume Eyelash Extension technique is the most advanced eyelash application technique, used to increase the volume of the lashes by creating ultra-light and thin fans (also known as Volume Effect). Extensions are available in pre-made fans, ideal for achieving a volume effect in ultra-fast times, for a light and natural final result: these are 3D or 5D fan lashes, also available in different curls and lengths, usually with a thickness of 0.07 mm. In the most advanced version of the Volume technique, the fans are created manually, using thinner extensions to create a customized and impactful effect.
